In the process of making Single Barrel Traditional Oak Aged 21 Years, Maltmaster David Stewart continued to explore the Speyside distillery's valuable stock. Using the olfactory skills he has honed over his remarkable five-decade career at the distillery, he selected only the liquid with the unique and exceptional character you would expect from The Balvenie Single Barrel, matured for 21 years in American oak: creamy, Rich in caramel and sweet honey with notes of fruit compote.

Traditional oak is the term often used to describe oak casks that have already been used to mature Scotch whiskey. When used to mature Scotch whiskey a second time, the balance of flavor influence tips more towards the character of the spirit than the cask, and therefore results in a single malt that arguably better reflects the character of the Scotch. the distillery In the case of The Balvenie, this character is a rich sweet honey mixed with subtle spices. Delicate sweet aromas of barley sugar and soft vanilla infusions reminiscent of Crème Patisserie, are followed by light aromatic touches of pepper. Rich, creamy flavors of caramel, honey and fruit compote reveal light orange peel and sugary velvetiness. The finish is rich and persistent.
